ALTURAS - Café con Tango

Tango-Inspired Music

Contemporary Tango sextet ʻAlturasʼ present a show of exquisite music
featuring the music from their Debut CD, Cafe con Tango.

Inspired by the music of Argentina, ʻAlturasʼ combines influences from classical,

latin andtango to create a unique blend of haunting melodies with jazz-inspired solos.

The performance includes works by Astor Piazzolla, Pablo Ziegler, Fernando Egozcue,
as well as traditional tangos and some original tango-inspired pieces.

Your group gives tango a very original twist which shows both the versatility
of our music and the many facets it can offer as the interest it creates in
Australia. I am very happy that a group of great Australian musicians has
chosen tango as its music”

Opera Australia Wind Quintet (OAWQ) -

Carmen Fantasy (flute/clarinet/oboe/bassoon/french horn)



Opera Australia Wind Quintet is an ensemble comprising permanent wind
players of the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra (AOBO). AOBO is the
resident orchestra of the Sydney Opera House, performing for Opera
Australia and The Australian Ballet.
Having played together in the AOBO wind section for many years, the
players of OAWQ perform music from the wind quintet repertoire to the
highest artistic standard.
They will present an entertaining programme, including “Carmen
Fantasy”, after the much-loved opera.

Bandaluzia - (flamenco music and dance)


Bandaluzia is a Sydney based Flamenco ensemble led by flamenco guitarist Damian
Wright, consisting of a group of acclaimed musicians and dancers at the forefront
of Flamenco music in Australia. A truly mesmerising display of explosive dance,
virtuosic guitars, soulful singing, dynamic improvisation, masterful percussion and
inspiring bass, embodying the passion, mystery and power of this remarkable art
form.Bandaluzia are known for their sell out performances in theatres across
Australia and in 2011 were a headlining act at The International Gypsy Music
Festival, Sydney and The Bellingen Global Carnival, NSW. Since 2011 the ensemble
has also been selected for Musica Vivas’s Countrywide Tourning program. The
ensemble are also revered for their ability to mix elements of other genres into
their performances, from the rich harmonies of Jazz to the exotic melodies of the
Orient and inviting renowned artists to the stage as guests in their performances.
An experience that evokes the senses with the grace of Flamenco.

C’est si bon - French Jazz

The "C'est si bon" duo at the acoustic lounge will be performing French

songs as well as Jazz and Bossa-Nova classics.


Alex Compton on double bass, vocals and hi-hats, lived in France for 21 years and started the band

"C'est si bon" around 2007 to combine his love of French songs and Jazz and Bossa-Nova music.

He is joined by Grahame Conlon on guitar, a seasoned Sydney jazz player who has performed with

Ricky May, Billy Fields, Tom Baker, and John Morrison.
